Halloween

Jessica and Jacob went trick-or-treating for the first time this year. Once they got the hang of it, they both loved it. I think Jessica loved meeting all the neighbors as much as she liked the candy. At every house, she would start talking and make conversation (after getting her candy). While she chatted with them, Jacob would stand there holding out his open bag staring at them with this sad little look until they caved and put more candy in his bag. If the door was open too wide, Jessica would often try to walk into their house, especially if they had pets in sight. This would continue until John and I drug them away from the door to walk to the next house. At first, Jacob did not want to carry his candy bag. After he got some candy in it, he would not let it go. Even when it got too heavy for him to carry (a direct result of the above scam they pulled at every house), he would not give us his bag. Eventually though, he did consent to letting us help him carry it.

Jessica was a princess for Halloween, and Jacob was a Knight. Most of Jacob's costume did not fit well, so he just wore the cape and carried the sword. John and I were very impressed that he carried the sword all night and never tried to hit his sister or anything else with it. It was not until my Dad had a sword fight with Jacob a few days later that he learned he could hit things with it. Halloween was a lot of fun this year, and Jacob and Jessica loved it. They also had a lot of fun before Halloween picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch and decorating them.
